Accessible to all!

Here at DZC we’re aiming to be accessible to everyone and we’re working hard for this to happen.

We’re proudly supporting BIAZA’s World Autism Acceptance Campaign, which runs from today until April 8, to promote positive changes across UK zoos to benefit visitors with autism.

We’re busy developing a new internal Equality, Diversity, Inclusivity and Accessibility (EDIA) plan, spearheaded by our on-site EDIA champion, Presenter Rosie Whiteside and so far…

• We’ve welcomed ‘Dimensions’ to DZC who carried out a site audit to promote inclusivity, as we strive to achieve an autism friendly accreditation and a number of staff have already received free training from them.
• We’re currently in the process of creating a number of signs and information boards, aimed at helping visitors identify various sensory environments while exploring the 40-acre site.
• We’ve recently taken delivery of a number of sensory bags, which will include headphones, communication cards and sensory fidgets – we’ll be launching these soon, so watch this space!
• And later in the year, we plan to launch quiet times across site, for guests who may be put off by large crowds or background noises. We’ll update our social media pages with dates soon.
