A roarsome birthday!

Asiatic lion, Jetpur, is set to enjoy a roarsome day today as he’s marking his 13th birthday!

Thanks to Karen Edwards for the roarsome pic!

And the lively boy, who returned to DZG in October, has certainly made a big impression on keepers, visitors and his two girls – Asha and Kyra.

Senior Keeper, Sarah Evans, said: “Jet has settled in really well, although like any teenager he can play us up, especially on evenings when he doesn’t want to come into bed.

“He can be quite active during the day and likes to spend time with both girls and and his roar is very impressive and can be heard all across the zoo.”

Jet, who weighs around 223 kilos, enjoys eight kilos of beef every other day, but also looks forward to meet and greets, when he’s allowed extra meaty treats from visitors who feed him through the enclosure bars.

But with no visits booked in the diary today, Sarah will be making sure he gets some extra birthday fuss from keepers instead!

Jet was one of a set of triplets born here in 2003 to mum, Gir and dad, Max.

He moved to Mulhouse Zoo in 2005 as part of a breeding programme, returning a decade later.

Head to Lion Ridge if you’re visiting today and wish him Happy Birthday!
