A mother and son from Malvern had a fabulous day together when they became zoo keepers at DZG.
Jo and Izaac Johnson took part in the site’s Keeper for a Day experience to celebrate Izaac’s 14th birthday, working their way around the site’s four animal sections and meeting lemurs, giraffes, penguins, birds of prey, chimps, orang utans and tapirs along the way.
Jo said: “We had a fantastic day, certainly one to remember!
“We spent time with four different keepers who were all very friendly, welcoming and also very knowledgeable.
“It is very hard to choose a favourite part as we did so many great things, but the main highlights must be flying Grafton the owl and feeding the giraffes by hand.
“We also both loved the whole primate section. We enjoyed everything from having the lemurs climb all over us to meeting the very cheeky little Sprout.”
Izaac was keen to return to DZG to meet some of the site’s bigger animals after taking part in a Little Zoo Keeper experience last year where he met meerkats, farm animals and the Discovery Centre’s critters.
But he’s already requested another zoo keeping experience for his 16th birthday in two years time, when he’ll be old enough to feed the big cats!
