DZG’s three rare Rothschilds giraffes know it’s lunchtime when they see keepers dragging their favourite food towards them.
Male Kubwa and females Mia and Josie all enjoy fresh leafy branches cut daily from the trees across the site.
The large branches are winched high into the air so the trio can stretch up to use their tongues to reach and pull down the leaves.
Keepers vary the variety of tree each day, although the trio’s favourite treat is hawthorn, which is similar to the acacia tree they would typically eat in the wild.
But as with all treats, they branches never last long enough and are soon stripped bare of all greenery.
