Huddersfield couple, Robert Willey and Melanie Robertshaw, loved their day as DZG keepers and discovered our chimps like drinking herbal tea!
Robert treated Melanie to the gift as a birthday present and the pair had a great day finding out all about some of the 200 different species we have at DZG.
Robert said: “We really loved the parts where we were actually allowed in the animal’s enclosures, such as the lemurs and tapirs and it was great to be in such close proximity to them and get to know more about them.
“We never knew that chimps were such tea connoisseurs, as they drank chamomile and spearmint flavoured tea when we were there!
During their day, Robert and Melanie worked alongside DZG staff as they prepped food, cleaned enclosures and fed some of the rarest animals in the world – including our Rothschild’s giraffes.
Robert added: “I chose Dudley Zoo as it seemed better value and had great reviews from previous keeper visitors.
“All the keepers we met were fantastic and we could tell that they were passionate about what they did and we got some fantastic photographs to remind us of the great day we had.”
