A Little Zoo Keeper experience in 2007 started a decade dream to work at DZG for an animal mad eight year-old.
Fast forward ten years and Sarah Holt now works in the zoo’s Customer Services department and is helping children have the same experience she did back then, by leading Little Zoo Keeper groups.
Sarah said: “I was given the opportunity to become a Little Zoo Keeper at the zoo for my eighth birthday present – the initiative hadn’t long been launched, so I was one of the first to take part.
“I absolutely loved it and it reaffirmed my wanting to work here in the future.
“Tickling the tapirs is my one abiding memory of the day. There were four tapirs then and I remember I was surrounded by these amazing animals.
“Tapir tickling is still main part of the experience and the children get so excited at meeting them and I still absolutely love that part too!”
Sarah, now aged 18, achieved her zoo dream a year ago, when she joined the team, but has always supported DZG as a keen member and also took part in an adult zoo keeper experience in 2015.
She added: “My dream really has come true by working here and I feel like I’ve come full circle.
“Eventually I would like to go into zoo education as I love talking to people about animals.”
