It was a close shave for DZG’s Icelandic sheep when they lost their woolly fleeces for the summer.
Our Curator Richard Brown – helped by Kirsty Thornton, Chris Leeson and Amy Paddock – put his new shears into action to shave off the animals’ thick coats.
Senior Keeper Kirsty Thornton said: “It was time for their yearly shave and the sheep will now feel a lot more comfortable in the warmer weather.
“They are looking very different but the fleeces will grow back again to keep them snug in time for winter.”
Kirsty said all the sheep were well behaved during their grooming session and were now looking very smart.
