We’ve started work on a £20,000 refurbishment of the Discovery Centre – which has been temporarily closed to visitors.
The much-needed revamp will transform the Tecton building into an additional indoor eating area as well as education and birthday party rooms and is expected to take six months to complete.
Zoo Manager, Matt Lewis, said: “The work, which is being carried out by our on-site development team, will see the three current public rooms become four as we provide the additional facilities for visitors.
“We’ve listened to customer feedback about wanting more undercover eating areas and following an increase of education and children’s party bookings, we need more space to accommodate them.”
As part of the overhaul all the animals in the Discovery Centre will be taken off show for the time being, although 26-year-old blue and gold macaw, Charlie, will return to the building with a brand new home.
Matt added: “We’ll be completing the work in stages by working on two rooms at a time, so birthday parties and workshops will all still go ahead and the Go Wild! Theatre will be unaffected and we hope to have it all complete for Easter 2017.”
