Bamboo for pandas

Calling all green-fingered gardeners, can you help us!

We’re appealing for any donations of potted or rooted bamboo for our gorgeous red panda!

Our development team are currently in the process of renovating the panda’s hillside home, where work will include constructing new public viewing areas, on show housing, climbing frame and nesting boxes, as well as installing new conservation signage, fencing and windows and as part of the revamp we’re hoping to increase our stock of bamboo plants in and around the exhibit.

Assistant Curator Jay Haywood, said: “A large portion of the red panda diet consists of bamboo and we’d not only like to use any donations to build up our own supply on-site, but also help with theming and decoration of the new-look exhibit; however, we can only use rooted bamboo which can be planted straight into the ground.”

While renovation work is carried out, our red panda can be found in the Small Primate House.

And it’s not only red pandas who enjoy eating the tasty green leaves, as the likes of our chimpanzees, tapirs and giraffe are also fans!

If anyone has any potted or rooted bamboo and are able to deliver to DZC, donations can be dropped off at the Safari Gift Shop.

Thank you in advance for your support!
