Throwback Thursday

It’s our final look back at DZG life over the last 80 years and as it’s Christmas we couldn’t resist turning the clock back just four years when our tigers enjoyed some snowy enrichment!

It was March 2013 when our Sumatran tiger, Daseep and Amur tiger, Tschuna, were snapped playing in the white stuff, which had fallen heavily across the 40-acre site overnight.

Big cat keepers built the then two-year-old tigers a snowman in their enclosure which the pair demolished in minutes and even took part in a snowball fight, with the tigers catching them between their furry paws!

Daseep and Tschuna joined the DZG collection in February 2012 from Wuppertal Zoo in Germany and visitors were given a unique opportunity to spot the differences between the two species, before Tschuna left us for Yorkshire Wildlife Park in November 2013 and Sumatran male, Joao, joined Daseep in the Tecton enclosure.
