It’s back for a 5th year on May 5th! Our annual Charity Walk is returning on Saturday May 5, so it’s time to dig out your fancy dress costume and join us for a 5 km stroll around our 40 acre woodland hillside, getting closer to some of the world’s rarest animals on the way!
This year funds raised will be split between DZG’s very own in-situ conservation projects and WildCats Conservation Alliance (formerly 21st Century Tiger), a charity which supports wild tigers and Amur leopards.
We would love to encourage walkers to spread a little animal magic, take a walk on the wild side and join us to raise sponsorship money by taking part.
New animal encounter checkpoints for 2018 – meet a critter to get your sticker!
The event, is open to all ages and offers walkers a chance to see their favourite species around the Zoo as they take part in the 5 km walk. Onesies, fancy dress, and any bright and colourful items of clothing are optional but welcome!
Our walk is grrrrrreat fun for friends, families and colleagues to take part and this year we’d like to encourage more groups, so if you are a leader of a social group, sports club or any organisation looking for a fun day out, then sign up!
With the walk starting at 11.00 am, registration costs just £6 per adult and £3 per child (3-15 yrs). 0-2 year olds are free. Zoo admission is included. Up to 4 spectators per booking will be admitted at a discounted rate of £7 per person (adult, child or concession). These need to be purchased prior to the date. Normal admission prices will apply on the day.
Finish your walk in our Castle Courtyard where you can relax and enjoy the rest of your day on the Zoo at your leisure! Refreshments will be available to purchase.
Please note whilst this walk is open to all people of ages and abilities, the nature of our historic site means that in parts the paths are steep and in some areas there are steps. Some of the paths on this sponsored walk are not suitable for pushchairs, buggys or wheelchair users.
Here’s how your sponsorship could make a difference here at the zoo:
- £50 – will buy plants for enclosures which provide food and enrichment
- £100 – will buy climbing nets for the Monkeys
- £150 – will buy a telegraph pole to help build climbing frames
- £250 – will buy 100 hessian sacks that we can use for enrichment
Sponsorship packs and further event details will be posted out to you.
For groups and organisations of 10+ participants, please call for further details and to register.
