Our annual Charity Walk is returning and it’s happening the same day we opened 80 years ago! So grab your fancy dress costume and join us for a 5 km stroll around our 40 acre woodland hillside, getting closer to some of the world’s rarest animals on the way!
And this year we are raising funds for……..DZG’s very own Orang utans!
We would love to encourage walkers to raise sponsorship money by taking part in our 5 km walk and ALL funds raised from the event will be used towards refurbishing our Orang utan enclosure for our lovable group, Benji, Jorong, Jazz and of course, youngster, Sprout!
The event, is open to all ages and offers walkers a chance to see their favourite species around the Zoo as they take part in the 5 km walk. Onesies, fancy dress, and any bright and colourful items of clothing are optional but welcome (just like Jazz wearing her sporty head gear)!! Or why not theme your fancy dress costume 1930’s style to fit in with our 80th birthday?
All funds raised will go towards DZG’s latest conservation project which will be the redevelopment of the existing outdoor areas for our group of four Orang utans.
With the walk starting at 11.00 am, registration costs just £6 per adult and £3 per child (3-15 yrs). 0-2 year olds are free. Zoo admission is included. Up to 4 spectators per booking will be admitted at a discounted rate of £7 per person (adult, child or concession). These need to be purchased prior to the date.
Finish your walk in our Castle Courtyard where you can relax and enjoy our 80th Anniversary birthday celebrations, a few songs from years gone by from The Glamophones, a piece of birthday cake – and the rest of your day on the Zoo at your leisure! Refreshments will be available to purchase.
Please note whilst this walk is open to all people of ages and abilities, the nature of our historic site means that in parts the paths are steep and in some areas there are steps. One of the paths on this sponsored walk is not suitable for pushchairs or buggys.
Did you know?
Orang utans have lived in their current exhibit for over fifty years, initially sharing the building with gorillas and chimpanzees.
As part of our overall development plan, we aim to redevelop the facilities for the orang utans over three phases, of which Phase One increased the heated indoor accommodation for the animals by an additional 700 cubic metres. Phase Two will create an entirely separate outdoor exhibit and Phase Three will see the redevelopment of their existing outdoor areas.
IUCN have updated the Bornean Orang utans status to CRITICALLY ENDANGERED.
Dudley Zoo supports The Orang utan Foundation, which is a UK registered charity working to conserve the threatened orang utan and its globally important habitat. A combination of threats from Palm Oil plantations, illegal logging and mining, forest fires, hunting and pet trade, all have contributed to this change in classification.
So……put your best foot forward and REGISTER ONLINE HERE> And we will post you a Registration Pack with all the details you need to start raising Sponsorship! Or call 01384 215313 to register by phone!
