Gimbi turns one!

Fallen autumn leaves provided ideal seasonal enrichment for gelada baboon, Gimbi’s first birthday party! Using four bags of dry leaves collected from around the zoo site, keepers covered the gelada’s indoor den flooring and mixed in some of their favourite primate pellets before letting the seven primates in to explore. Juicy autumnal treats!

Seasonal produce is always on the menu for our 200-strong animal species here at DZG. And in recent weeks our seven female chimpanzees have been tucking into delicious blackberries, freshly picked by keepers from bushes around the zoo site. And 23 year-old Mali didn’t waste any time in wolfing down the juicy autumnal treats!

Reduced zoo opening

With autumn on its way this week we’ve reverted to our shorter winter hours today. We’re giving our animals an extra hour in bed as last entry is now 3pm, with the site closing 90 minutes later. Chimps' autumnal enrichment

DZG’s chimpanzees enjoyed some seasonal enrichment with autumnal fallen leaves.
