Red pandas, Yasmin and Gawa, are keeping cosy in new nesting boxes, built for us by our talented local Senior Citizen woodwork group.
Over the last year the crafters based at Meadow Road Youth Centre have made a number of items for around the 40-acre, including penguin and bat boxes, bird tables and even a castle for our farm’s female guinea pigs.
And the three panda boxes are their latest project to be installed at the zoo, while keepers also used the opportunity to replace worn parts of the climbing frame too.
Assistant Curator Jay Haywood, said: “We sent designs to the group, who have produced these new larger boxes for us, which will definitely provide warm, cosy shelters for Yasmin and Gawa.
“We’re very thankful for the work of the Senior Citizens Enterprise Woodwork Group who have once again helped us out and provided us with another great product, which will be well used by our exotic species.”
