It’s Hallowe’en and carved pumpkins are going down a treat for DZG’s animals!
Many of the site’s animals, large and small will be tucking into hollowed-out pumpkins today as part of seasonal enrichment from keepers.
DZG Media and Communications Officer, Rachel Hickman, said: “Following our Hallowe’en events throughout half term we had a lot of leftover carved pumpkins and as we don’t waste anything here, keepers filled some up with favourite foods, while others were cut into pieces for many of our 1,500 strong animal collection to eat and they went down a treat!”
And we had fang-tastically good fun at our two family Hocus Pocus after hours events last week, which featured a Hallowe’en hunt around the zoo site and a visit to the haunted site cottage for a trick or treat surprise!
More than 150 youngsters and adults dressed as witches, wizards, ghouls and ghosts for the annual event where they were also able to come face-to-face with a variety of creepy critters and take part in Dippy’s spooky show.
Marketing Manager, Andrea Hales, said: “We had two superb evenings and there were some spooktacular costumes on show.
“The Hallowe’en hunt was great fun and the visit to the cottage to ring the spooky doorbell and find out who was behind the door went down very well indeed!”
