Grabbing the Gap

Have you spotted our blooming lovely wild mini-meadow?

We’re taking part in BIAZA’s (British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums) Grab That Gap campaign again this year by creating a mini-meadow for visitors and minibeasts to enjoy.

Following last year’s successful growth, DZG’s Conservation Officer, Chris Leeson, re-seeded the ground in front of the Peccary enclosure over the spring, which is now in full bloom with colourful poppies, daisies and cornflowers

Chris said: “The campaign encourages people to plant an unused space with wildflowers to attract native wildlife and it’s an easy task for visitors to do at home in their own gardens.

“The mini-meadow looks lovely and over the coming weeks I’ll be carrying out a mini-bioblitz on the area to count the number of species we find, before submitting them to BIAZA.”
