Ellis lands the job!

It’s a fantastic start to 2017 for Ellis Robinson as the 20-year-old has landed a Trainee Keeper position at DZG.

A familiar face on site for the last couple of years, securing the permanent position is a dream come true for the animal lover from Gornal, after impressing zoo bosses with her hardworking attitude and dedication.

Ellis said: “I didn’t believe it when they offered me the job and I thought they were joking.

“I’m really happy as I love the job and I love the fact I get to continue working with the animals I have been for the last two years.”

Ellis first came to DZG in 2014 as an apprentice on our ungulates section, where she successfully completed an NVQ Level 2 in Customer Service through Dudley College, after swapping from a health and social care course.

And she returned last year to complete a second apprenticeship in animal care, before she was offered the full-time role.

Curator Richard Brown, said: “Ellis has worked really hard over the last two years, in particular with our reindeer herd where she’s single handedly harness trained our two youngsters Sunflower and Jasmine over the last few months.

“She’s shown a real flair for zoo keeping and is a great addition to the DZG team.”
